02 — Delegate, Research Writer & Secretary · Feb 2025 + Sep 2025
Japan Youth Summit
I have been a delegate for the United States at the Japan Youth Summit twice, first in February 2025 and again in September 2025.
The summit brings students from different countries together in Japan. We work in small teams, and each team creates a real project in just a few days. My roles were research writer and secretary. I did most of the research and helped turn our ideas into a project we could present to judges.
The first time, my team's project centered on the Green Box, a machine made by a company called Greenia that turns used cooking oil into clean drinking water and gives a small reward each time it is used. The project won Best Project.
The second time, my team created an app that teaches people how to recycle correctly. Many recycling problems happen because people sort items incorrectly. Our team won Best Group.
The hardest part was working with a new team each time. We had only a few days to work together, and some team members were not fluent in English. This taught me how to listen to different ideas, work through disagreements, and bring everyone's ideas together into one project.
